English Traditions, German Culture and a touch of California Style

Updated: Jul 20, 2018

I am so excited to finally be sharing this gorgeous wedding we did in Germany back in April. It has been a crazy past couple of months now wedding season has officially begun. I also wanted to share some things close to my heart in this one and for those that know me.

This wedding was extra special for me as I’ve known Jenny for about 4 years now. When I moved to Germany she was one of the first to make me feel welcome and showed me around the city and literally introduced me to anyone and everyone! I lived in Germany for just under a year while planning my own wedding back in 2014-15.

It was my first time back in Germany after being back in the UK for three years. I didn’t quite know what to expect and I was nervous and excited all at the same time but it was amazing being back. I fell in love with everything all over again; the city, the culture, the language and most importantly the people. For the first time in three years I finally looked back and remembered all the amazing times I had over there. I got to see so many old friends and see their babies now as mini humans running around causing havoc!

“You remember the city, but the city never remembers you.”

Those words kept running through my mind as I walked through the City of Frankfurt but I was ok with that because although the City doesn’t remember you. The people do and that’s all that matters.

So let’s talk about how flipping awesome this wedding was! It was not only one day but two days worth of celebrating for this gorgeous couple. My first ever impression of Jenny was that she would make the most perfect wife and so I will let Stephen confirm if my first impressions were correct over the next couple of months.

This wedding was a mix of English tradition, German Culture and a touch of California style.

It bought the best of the three cultures together in a stylish and modern way. It had all the feels!

Our first night we slept in this awesome boat hotel in Hochst which was a 2 minute walk from where the legal ceremony was taking place on Friday morning. Before we went to bed, we were told that the boat sometimes moves so you may wake up in a completely different part of the river. Helpful. So we set our alarms extra early preparing for a good hike back in the morning to find we were in the exact same location. Either the guy was joking or I needed to brush up on my German!

The first day we were hit by a thunderstorm - all the guests huddled under umbrellas to run back to the boat ready for the beautifully served breakfast before making our way over to Marburg.

The next day we were up early ready for the real party to begin and the sun certainly came to greet us! The entire day was filled with blue skies and sunshine. The ceremony was in a quaint little church in the middle of the countryside near Marburg, Germany. Friends and family had travelled all across the world to celebrate this special day with Jenny and Stephen. It was quite a squish to get everyone in!

We then headed to Dagobertshausen for the reception, which had amazing grounds to enjoy the sunshine and an epic modern barn full of musical instruments and chandeliers. The details and small touches made the barn look alive, not to mention the Mr or Mrs shoe contest, a choreographed first dance, bouquet toss, ice-cream cart and sparklers to end the night!
